Best Cheap Web Hosting

Picking the best cheap web hosting providers doesn't have to feel like taking a risk with your website.

Picking a cheap web hosting provider doesn’t have to feel like taking a risk with your website – there are some brilliant and reliable low-cost web hosting services to choose from, many of which offer terrific discounts.

We’ve rated the best web hosting services around, so we can help you pick the right one for your needs. Based on our thorough assessments, we’ve found that InMotion Hosting is the best web hosting service out there. It’s closely followed by Bluehost Web Hosting, a well-known brand in the website publishing space. Though their costs are similar, some regular Bluehost hosting discounts make the platform particularly appealing for anyone seeking a cheap hosting deal.

Remember – choosing the right hosting provider is critical for the long-term success of your site and your business. You’ll want a stable, reliable service that won’t let you down as your traffic increases. You’ll also want a good value plan, which means your costs won’t spiral out of control. Check out our recommendations below before getting started.

Deciding on the best cheap web hosting service isn’t simply a matter of “lowest cost = best choice.” Ultimately, this is a decision that has a big impact on the stability and potential performance of your website, so picking the cheapest of the cheap isn’t always the smartest decision.

However, thanks to our in-depth assessment of the features, plans, help & support, and prices of each web hosting provider, we’ve picked out the best value hosting plans to choose.

InMotion is our top-rated web hosting provider, and it has some good value plans and regular discounts. Web hosting is a competitive market – we’d also strongly recommend Bluehost, which we rank alongside InMotion as one of the best hosting providers you can choose. Plenty of people will feel familiar with the GoDaddy name because of its prominence in the website-building space, but it’s also a hosting giant. And if you’re after WordPress hosting specifically, then InMotion has some terrific value WordPress plans.

Here’s our full list of the best cheap hosting providers:

  1. InMotion – The best hosting provider you can choose, with some good value cheap plans
  2. Bluehost – One of the best web hosting services we’d recommend
  3. HostGator – Solid web hosting provider with unbeatable uptime performance
  4. 1&1 Hosting – Solid web hosting services for experts who don’t need a lot of support
  5. GoDaddy Hosting – Well-known, feature-heavy web hosting service with higher prices
  6. WPEngine – An easy-to-use web hosting provider; great for WordPress, but that’s it

See the table below for a handy overview of each of their cheapest hosting plans to get any idea of what these providers offer, and read on for more in-depth reviews on each.

Best overall web hosting service, with stellar customer support

There’s a reason we put InMotion Hosting at the top of our list. In addition to providing a wide range of affordable plans across all hosting types, InMotion boasts some of the best customer support features on the market, including 24/7 live chat, a helpful knowledge center, and an impressive uptime performance.

InMotion Shared Hosting

Shared hosting refers to when multiple websites are hosted on a single physical server, and split its resources between them. It’s perfect for small businesses looking to build a promotional site that won’t require too much bandwidth or attention. With InMotion Shared Hosting, you’ll be able to host this kind of website. Plus, you still get access to all InMotion customer support options, along with unlimited emails, unlimited storage, and unmetered bandwidth.

The costs for this feature used to start with the Launch plan, at $7.99 per month, but have risen in recent years. As of our latest research, the new Core plan is the cheapest option, starting at $2.24 per month for the first year, and $11.99 per month after that.

Solid web hosting provider with unbeatable uptime performance

There’s a lot to be said about reliability when it comes to hosting a website. With HostGator, you can be sure your site will always be available, as this provider boasts the highest possible uptime performance out there. Prices are incredibly low compared to some competitors, and the value is hard to argue with when you consider what you’re getting.

HostGator Shared Hosting

You’re clearly looking for the best price when it comes to web hosting, and a shared plan from HostGator will do the trick, starting at just $3.75 per month. Yes, you’ll sacrifice some of the reliability – you’ll have to share server space with other users – but the added cost savings more than make up for it, particularly if you’re hosting a fairly basic website.

Great web hosting services for experts who don’t need a lot of support

Web hosting is obviously a bit complicated to the layman, but there are those out there who know what they’re doing. If you’re one of them, 1&1 Hosting is a great fit, as it provides a wide range of features and customizability without a whole lot of support. Plus, if you’re looking for a great price, you’ve definitely found it.

1&1 Shared Hosting

There’s no denying 1&1 Hosting boasts some of the best prices on this list, and its shared hosting plans are no different. You’ll be able to lock down a shared hosting plan with 1&1 for only $4, which still includes SSL (secure sockets layer) certification and a free domain. Again, customer support isn’t ideal, so make sure you know what you’re doing before deciding on 1&1.

1&1 VPS Hosting

For mid-sized businesses with a few more needs when it comes to web hosting, a VPS hosting plan with 1&1 is a great option. Its cheapest plan is affordable as far as the competition is concerned, but does lacks the storage and dedicated RAM of other plans, which you may need as a scaling company.

Well-known, feature-heavy web hosting service with higher prices

Of course, you’ve seen the commercials, but how does GoDaddy fare against the competition when it comes to actual web hosting? The company admittedly has a robust option, offering a wide range of features – many of them free for the first year – plus a stellar uptime performance. However, those costs add up over time, which means you may need to look to the future before pulling the trigger.

GoDaddy Shared Hosting

While GoDaddy prices can be a bit daunting, their cheapest shared hosting plan is actually comparable to the rest of the industry. Starting at $7.99, you still get all the standard bells and whistles, along with their passable customer support options. None of the plans offer live chat, but you still have access to their helpful knowledge center.

If you’re looking to scale in the future, a VPS hosting plan could work, as it provides an easier avenue for doing so. An easy-to-use web hosting provider; great for WordPress, but that’s it

WPEngine isn’t exactly like other web hosting providers. This WordPress-powered service is the easiest way to get your WordPress website live on the internet. Simply put, if you’re building a website that isn’t on WordPress, it’s safe to say you can move on from this plan.

WPEngine Shared Hosting

All WPEngine plans are shared hosting, as they’re all hosted on WordPress servers. Starting at $35 per month and going all the way up to $290 per month, you’ll be able to turn your website into a reality without a lot of know-how. The price does reflect this ease, but it could be worth it if you’re new to the website building and web hosting industry.

We take our impartial research and analysis seriously, so you can have complete confidence that we’re giving you the clearest, most useful recommendations.

After conducting an initial exploration to identify the most relevant, popular, and established tools in the market, we put them through their paces with hands-on testing to see their real strengths and weaknesses. In this case, we put 27 hosting providers to the test across a huge 282 areas of investigation.

Based on years of market and user needs research, we’ve established a web hosting provider testing methodology that scores each product in five main categories of investigation and 30 additional subcategories; this covers everything from the providers’ server speed, reliability and performance to the value for money you can expect, as well as much more.

Our main testing categories for hosting providers are:

  • Price: the cost associated with the hosting services provided by a hosting provider, such as subscription plans, pricing tiers, and any additional fees or charges.
  • Performance: the speed, reliability, and overall performance of a hosting provider’s servers. It encompasses factors such as server uptime and response time.
  • Features: the specific functionalities and capabilities provided by a hosting provider, including storage space, bandwidth allocation, and server location.
  • Help and Support: the assistance and resources available to users when they encounter issues or need guidance, e.g. tutorials and email or chat support.
  • Market Analysis / Customer Score: the assessment of the hosting provider’s position and reputation in the market.

When it comes to calculating a product’s final score, not all testing areas are weighted evenly, as we know some aspects matter more to our readers than others, which are merely “nice to have.” After hundreds of hours, our process is complete, and the results should ensure you can find the best solution for your needs.

At Tech.co, we have a number of full time in-house researchers, who re-run this testing process regularly, to ensure our results remain reflective of the present day.

Web hosting can seem like a pretty simple proposition – you pay money, and a company’s servers host your website for you. However, there are a few things you should consider before you dive straight in with a web hosting provider. Below, we explain what you need to know.

Best Web Hosting Black Friday

Find the Best Hosting for Your Site

Do you have web hosting already?

When it comes to web hosting, there are a few different types of plans that vary substantially in price. Shared hosting plans are typically the most affordable, as users have to share space on a server. This makes your site a bit less reliable, but the savings can be pretty substantial.

If you need a bit more reliability, a VPS hosting plan is a relatively affordable option, providing users with their own section of a server rather than a shared space. Some providers offer comparable prices to shared plans, but you’ll almost certainly have to pay a bit extra for VPS hosting.

If you’re looking for an affordable option, avoid dedicated hosting plans, as these are typically the most expensive. Reserved for enterprise-level websites, a dedicated server plan provides users with their own server to host their website, but it can get serious up there when it comes to cost.

Almost all web hosting plans operate on a monthly basis, charging a flat rate per month. The size of that flat rate primarily relies on which type of hosting plan you opt for. For shared hosting plans – the most affordable option – you can expect to pay between $4-$12 per month.

If you’re looking for more robust options, VPS hosting plans will typically run you approximately $20-$50 per month (unless, of course, you go with 1&1 Hosting, although that comes with its own caveats). VPS hosting is a bit more expensive because it gives you slightly more control over your website than shared hosting.

Enterprise-level users who need a server all of their own will want a dedicated hosting plan, and these plans regularly cost several hundred dollars per month. If you don’t need a robust, high-functioning website where you have all the control, you can probably forego this decidedly expensive option.

After thoroughly researching all the web hosting providers on this list, we believe that Bluehost and InMotion are the best available web hosting providers on the market, predominantly for their reasonable prices, bevy of plans, and incredible customer support ratings.

After those two, the playing field levels off a bit, with HostGator and 1&1 Hosting rounding out the second tier of solid web hosting options. Each of these services offers a solid option that would do well for anyone, but they each have unique downfalls – such as poor customer support or weak uptime performance – which take them out of the top tier.

GoDaddy and WPEngine make up the bottom of the list; the former is a bit on the expensive side as the plans progress, while the latter is exclusively good for WordPress sites, which notably limits functionality.

There are a number of options for free web hosting online, including Wix and WordPress. You’ll be able to build a rudimentary website, and get it on the web at no cost.

However, if you’re looking to build a website with any functionality beyond displaying information, we would not recommend opting for free web hosting services. For one, they won’t be able to handle any advanced functionality, such as transactions or animation, which will fundamentally cripple your website from the start.

If you’re truly concerned about how much web hosting costs, some services like HostGator provide free trials that last up to a month, so you can get a good idea of how the process works before committing any money to it.
